State Resource Centre for Adult Education has celebrated International Literacy Day on 8th September, 2001 at conference hall of SRC, Dehra Dun, by honouring the field worker who have done commendable and remarkable work in the area of Adult Literacy. State Resource Center, Dehradun, had written to the District Magistrate and Zila Saksharta Saksharta Samiti secretaries of all the districts of Uttaranchal to recomend the names along with the brief biodata, of the outstanding workers involved in the adult education progamme, so that they could be honoured on the occasion. The awardees were honoured with certificate, mementoes and shawl. Mr. Tirath Singh Rawat, Hon'ble Minister Primary, Secondary and Adult Education, Government of Uttaranchal, was the chief guest of the function and presented the awards to the participants. He emphatically stressed the need of the women's education in this newly created Himalayan state Uttranchal, and reaffirmed the commitment of his government in making the entire state fully literate. He assured the participants that the government of uttranchal will extend all kinds of possible support for this noble cause.

Swamy, Dehra Dun, Ms. Susheela Bisht, Rudra Prayag, Mr. Devi Prasad Chamoli, Chamoli, Mr. Rajbeer Singh Rawat, Uttarkashi, Ms. Champa Sah, Almora, Mr. Lalit Mohan Bohra, Champavat, Mr. Mohan Chandra Devlal, Pithrogarh, Mr. Dayal Singh Kantura, Tehri Garhwal, Mr. Trilok Singh Nayal, Nainital, Mr. Shankar Dutt Panday, Almora, Mr. Roop Chandra, Pauri Garhwal, Ms. Sunita Chauhan, from ardwar.


This year State Resource Center, Dehra Dun has also honoured Hardwar District for its highest achievement in Total Literacy campaign among all the districts of Uttaranchal. The selection has been made on the basis of external Evaluation. In addition to this, State Resource Center has also honoured 5 volunteers who have done commendable work in making the nomadic van gujjar community literate under the innovative and challenging Adult Literacy Programme being implemented by Rural Litigation & Entitlement Kendra, Dehradun.

The presentation was held in a packed auditorium at the Rural Litigation and Entitlement Kendra (RLEK) office. The audiance was given a beautiful performance of traditional folk songs spreading the message of the importance of literacy and education for the human being.
