The
Open Forum
"Open Forum/ Khulla Manch” is an Exertive Forum to put forth the
concerns before the otherwise 'unreachable" policy-makers. It acts
as a catalyst towards building networks and creating a pressure-lobby to
influence legislation and public policy. It is a threshold where the women can
voice their grievances and ensure basic rights like drinking water, health,
education, shelter etc, within their communities, issues that were for long
ignored by their male counterparts.
So
far, RLEK has successfully organized seven such Forums, Eighth Open Forum, a
two day annual event, was held at the Voiceroy Inn, Dehradun on 23-24
September 2006, saw an overwhelming presence of 757 EWRs, not only districts
of Uttaranchal but also from Himachal and Haryana. The women gathered here to
exert concerns before the otherwise "unreachable" policy
makers.
OBJECTIVES OF THE OPEN FORUM
To strengthen the women's network and advocacy through an interface within
themselves, that will serve as their collective voice, reaching the planners
and policy-makers.
To help, build the confidence-level and articulation skills of Elected Women
Representatives.
Information-dissemination regarding schemes. This would also include the Right
to Information Act, 2005.
To provide a platform for women functionaries to discuss their problems and
concerns and also, work towards formulation of future strategies.
Formation of the Uttaranchal Mahila Manch comprising representatives from each
district who will present their area-specific issues on a regular basis.
