As there was no basic school in Gaichwan village, Singtur patti, Mori block of District Uttarkashi, funding from the Japanese Embassy has allowed the building of a school in the village. Gaichwan is a small village set on the hillside, 2km from the road in Netwar, 20 km from Mori town. It has one classroom and living quarters for the teachers. The construction of this school was begun in October 2001 and was completed in March 2002. The foundation stone was laid by the then Hon'ble Minister for Panchayat Raj Mr. Mohan Singh Gaonwasi on 17th April 2001.
The women from the Self-Help-Group (set up by Prakriya) were instrumental in initiating the laying of the foundation stone for the construction of the school. All arrangements for the inauguration were carried out by these women. The village has formed a samiti (school committee) for the organisation of the school, addressing such things as holidays, teachers, fees etc.
Another school, in Ludgiad village, (Fatehparvat patti, Mori block, Uttarkashi district) also funded by the Japanese Embassy, is also in the process of being constructed.
similarly another school is coming up in seedi village of chakrata block, district Dehra Dun. RLEK will take the responsibility for running the school, as the teacher will be appointed by them..
